Overview

Deciding what type of anesthesia is a decision you will discuss with your Doctor during your first visit. Many factors are reviewed in making the best decision such as difficulty in procedure, medical history review and anxiety level. Several methods of anesthesia will be briefly mentioned below.

ANESTHESIA OPTIONS

Local Anesthetic
The patient remains awake throughout the procedure. A local
anesthetic (lidocaine) is administered in the area where the surgery
is to be performed.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation with Local Anesthetic
A mixture of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oxygen is inhaled through the nose and can help lower anxiety levels. Local anesthesia injections are still used in this method. Patients will still be aware of surroundings and have most recall from the procedure

IV sedation
Medications are administered through a vein in your arm. This method typically puts patients in a twilight state where they will not recall the procedure. Local anesthesia injections are still used in this method as well.

When it comes to anesthesia our first priority is the patient’s comfort and safety. If you have any concerns regarding the type of anesthesia that will

be administered during your oral surgery procedure, please do not hesitate to
discuss your concerns with your doctor at the time of your consultation.
