Overview
Adolescents and even some adults will be referred for an evaluation of an impacted tooth that hasn’t erupted properly. Teeth besides wisdom teeth can also be impacted meaning it is stuck and will need assistance to help it erupt. Most commonly a patient will have an upper impacted canine (eye tooth) that will require a chain to be ligated. Exposures can be done on any tooth in the mouth if needed and applicable. The age of the patient is usually the biggest factor when determining the success of erupting the impacted tooth properly.
There are many different techniques to exposing teeth and bonding them with a chain and or wire to aid in eruption. There will be a discussion with your orthodontist and oral surgeon to develop the best plan for each case.
Typically these procedures are quick and easy for adolescents getting their impacted tooth exposed.
